Where is the next generation of singers going to come from? Where are they going to find encouragement, experience and training? This role has increasingly fallen to voluntary bodies and it's one we take seriously at Bristol Choral Society.
We offer a number of opportunites to enage young people both as choir and audience members with special events such as our Mini Messiah concerts.
Bristol Choral Society actively encourages local children to experience choral singing, both as singers and listeners. For over a decade now we have taken outreach programmes into Bristol's primary schools.
Prior to the school closures in March 2020 we had planned a performance of Ahoy! by Alexander L’Estrange which involved primary and secondary school students across North and South Bristol. Unfortunately this was unable to go ahead. We are hoping to continue with these outreach projects when we are able.
Over the years we have worked with hundreds of children and their teachers. Benefits apart, this has always been a great pleasure for the choir.
For more information please contact our education and outreach coordinator by selecting the Schools/education option on our contact form.
Recently we have added a third dimension to our support for young singers with the introduction of a Choral Scholarship Programme which offers bursaries for auditioned aspiring professional singers at the start of their careers, providing performing opportunities within a large choir, specialist vocal coaching from our Musical Director and the chance to widen their repertoire. At the same time, of course, the choir benefits from their expertise!
