About 150 of us had a terrific day on 21st April, rehearsing and then performing 9 of the choruses from Messiah. About 50 Bristol Choral Society members were joined by singers from other choirs, as far away as Ireland and including nearly 20 visitors from “Chorège”, a choir from Seine et Marne east of Paris.
The idea hatched when one couple attended our concert in Bristol Cathedral last summer (their daughter is in the choir) and picked up a leaflet for this event. Members of our choir hosted them and we were delighted to have them join in for the day.
Altogether the sound of the choirs was superb, we thought. Then Hilary (Cambpell, our Music Director) showed us how to make it so much more effective as we studied each chorus. Hilary also had us in stitches using various techniques to release our voices and sing out correctly.
To quote one non Choral Society attendee:
Thank you for the wonderful come and sing day yesterday – I enjoyed it greatly and it was so inspirational to sing under the excellent direction of Hilary.
